Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan is in Amerika vandaag, 1 september, begonnen.

Presidential Message, Ramadan 2008

I send greetings to Muslims observing Ramadan in America and around the globe.

The holy month of Ramadan is a special time of prayer, fasting, and service. For Muslims, these days commemorate the revelation of God's word to the Prophet in the form of the Qur'an.

I thank the men and women of the Muslim community for their contributions to America. Your love of family, and gratitude to God have strengthened the moral fabric of our country. Our Nation is stronger and more hopeful because of the generosity, talents, and compassion of our Muslim citizens.

Laura and I send our best wishes. Ramadan Mubarak.

Summer Fun

One of the many Malibu beaches.

Lazy Sunday afternoon at the beach - Aug 24 - after an exhausting walk in the beautiful Malibu Canyon Creek Park.

Grand Canyon

Hualapai Indian Reservation.
The Hualapai are a tribe of Native Americans who live in the mountains of northwestern Arizona. The name is derived from "hwal," the Yuman word for pine, "Hualapai" meaning "people of the tall pine". Their traditional territory is a 100 mile (160 km) stretch along the pine-clad southern side of the Grand Canyon. A third of the tribe's 2,200 members live in poverty.

Planes of Fame Air Museum nearby the Canyon.
Taj had het "Do not touch our planes" bordje natuurlijk over het hoofd gezien.

Wow!

Prachtige wandeling vanaf Yaki Point de Canyon in.
Yaki trail.

Yipee! We made it to Cedar Ridge. The walk back up was more tiring.

Our new(er) car and our friend's tent at the Mather Campground of the Canyon. Clear skies and bright stars!

With the shuttle bus to the highest point of the Canyon: Desert View.

The Watchtower at Desert View. Built in 1932 as an observation station. Taj made observations from the tree.

Heel bizar.
Forces of nature at work during our long and hot journey home.

Viva Las Vegas

On the road through California to Nevada.

We stayed in the Sahara hotel. The hotel was opened in 1952 just outside of the City of Las Vegas, and was the sixth resort to open on the Strip. Performers at the resort over the years have included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Marlene Dietrich, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Bill Cosby, and many others.

Dad, monorail pictures for you.
Monorail from our hotel to MGM hotel at the other end of the Strip.

Alle casino/hotels hebben wat te bieden...
