Weekendje - na Kerst - weg! Sneeuw en woestijn in 2 dagen!
After Christmas we decided to go away for a weekend. We visited the snow and the desert.
Palm Springs Aerial Tramway
Meer mensen waren op het idee gekomen om een weekendje weg te gaan en het was de drukste dag van het hele jaar. We moesten 2 uur op de kabelbaan wachten.
We were not the only ones wanting to go from Coachella Valley up to the San Jacinto peak and ended up waiting for about two hours at the tram station.
Vanaf de San Jacinto top hadden we een prachtig uitzicht over de Coachella valei en hebben we heerlijk in het maanlicht (tot de knieen diep) in de sneeuw gewandeld.
By the time we reached the top it was already dark, but we enjoyed the lights in the Valley and our walk in the snow in moon light. Plenty of bright stars!
Italiaanse maaltijd in het gezellige Palm Springs en overnachting in Indio. Volgende ochtend door droog landschap, langs vele palmboomgaarden naar de Salton Sea.
The creation of the Salton Sea started in 1905, when heavy rainfall and snowmelt caused the Colorado River to swell and breach a dike. It took nearly two years to control the Colorado River’s flow into the formerly dry Salton Sink and stop the flooding. As the basin filled, the town of Salton, a Southern Pacific Railroad siding and Torres-Martinez Indian land were submerged. The sudden influx of water and the lack of any drainage from the basin resulted in the formation of the Salton Sea.
We hebben nog overwogen een vakantiehuisje te kopen aan de Salton Sea....
Anza-Borrego dessert. Wanneer we terug komen, komt Taj definitief met de motor. Stofwolken op de foto zijn van motoren.

Even in the desert we could see snow in the background.
Net als eerder met pa, maakte ik met Taj de wandeling naar de Anza-Borrego oase. Dit keer was er water onderweg - gesmolten sneeuw.
With a filling Mexican meal in our bellies, we made the walk to the Anza-Borrego oasis with impresseve desert scenery views.
De terugweg via het gezellige plaatsje Julian met haar beroemde appeltaarten. Ook hier waren we niet de enigen en waren de meeste appeltaarten uitverkocht. We hebben nog een bevroren taart voor thuis kunnen bemachtigen en een vers stuk met warme chocolade melk.
And of course apple pie at Julian on our way back to Los Angeles.
