First glimpse of the lake.

Picknick at the Kern River in the little town of Kernville.

Lake Isabella. After sun bathing at the lake, we quickly drove through the town of Isabella. Nothing exciting there for tourists. But apparently enough excitement going on for the locals: In July 2008, the town of Lake Isabella experienced a series of flash floods. The flooding was primarily caused by a fire. On the second day of flooding, an 8 feet (2.4 m) tall wall of water flowed through town. Instead we stopped at Bakersfield for a dinner at a (very American) truckers restaurant.
